Call 204-297-0664Furnace Not Heating? Here's What's Probably Wrong
Most furnace failures in Winnipeg come down to a handful of common problems. Before you panic — and before you start calling around — here's what we typically find when we show up:
- Dirty or clogged filter — Causes overheating and automatic shutdown. First thing we check.
- Igniter failure — The hot surface igniter has a lifespan. When it goes, the furnace won't light. Common part, usually in stock on the truck.
- Flame sensor — Gets dirty over time, causes the burner to shut down after 5-10 seconds. Cleaning or replacement fixes it.
- Pressure switch — Often fails when the condensate line is blocked or the inducer motor is weak.
- Blower motor — If the fan doesn't run, the heat exchanger overheats and the furnace shuts down on safety.
- Control board — The brain of the furnace. More expensive to replace but not a reason to scrap the system if it's otherwise sound.
- Gas valve — Less common but happens. We test it, not assume it.
Oil Furnaces — We Service Them
SE Winnipeg has a lot of older homes still running oil furnaces. Most HVAC companies in Winnipeg won't touch them — they don't carry the parts, and it's easier to push a replacement. We repair oil furnaces. We also do conversions to natural gas or heat pump when that makes more financial sense.
If your oil furnace is repairable, we'll repair it. If it's not, we'll tell you that honestly and quote the conversion properly.
What to Expect From a Service Call
- We call ahead. When the tech is en route, you get a heads up.
- Diagnosis first. We diagnose before quoting. You get a clear explanation of what's wrong and what it costs to fix.
- You decide. No pressure, no upselling. If the repair makes sense, we do it. If the system is too far gone, we say so.
- Parts on the truck. We stock common furnace parts — igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches, filters. Most repairs same visit.
- Clean exit. We leave the mechanical room the way we found it.
All Brands Serviced
We're authorized York and Lennox dealers, but we service everything — Trane, Carrier, Lennox, York, Goodman, Amana, Rheem, American Standard, Napoleon, ICP, and older equipment that's been running since the 80s. We don't turn calls away because of the brand on the unit.
Furnace Repair vs. Replacement
Honest answer: if your furnace is under 15 years old and the repair cost is under $800, repair is almost always the right call. If it's over 20 years old and you're looking at a major component, the math usually points to replacement — especially when Manitoba Hydro HEEL financing is available.
We'll give you the honest comparison. Call us at 204-297-0664 and describe what's happening. We'll tell you what we think before we even show up.
