Central Air vs. Mini-Split: Which Is Right for Your Home?

The answer depends on your existing ductwork, your budget, and how you use your home.

• Central air (ducted) — If you already have a forced-air furnace with ductwork, adding a central air system is the most cost-effective option. One outdoor unit, connects to your existing ducts. Cools the whole house evenly.
• Ductless mini-split — No existing ductwork? A mini-split goes in faster, no major renovation needed. Also good for additions, garages, or zones you want to cool independently. Higher upfront cost per zone, but no duct losses.
• Heat pump (split system) — Provides both heating and cooling in one unit. Worth considering if your furnace is also aging. See our heat pump page for details.

Manitoba Hydro HEEL Program

High-efficiency AC and heat pump systems may qualify for Manitoba Hydro HEEL financing — up to $20,000 at 0% interest, repaid through your Hydro bill over up to 15 years. We're a registered Hydro contractor and handle the application.

The Installation Process

1. Assessment — We visit, measure, and determine what system and size is right.
2. Written quote — Equipment, labour, refrigerant lines, any electrical work. No hidden charges.
3. Installation day — Most installs take one day. We set up the outdoor unit, run refrigerant lines, connect to the air handler or furnace, and test everything.
4. Startup and verification — System tested under load before we leave.
5. Warranty registration — We register the equipment warranty for you.
